Farm finds success near downtown San Diego
Just minutes from downtown San Diego is where you'll find a unique farm with an even more unique story. Suzie's Farm is a 70-acre, USDA-certified organic farm a mere 13 miles south of downtown.
Owners Robin Taylor and Lucila De Alejandro established the farm in 2004 on land adjacent to their other business, Sun Grown Organic Distributors, a sprout and wheatgrass company. When the neighboring property became available, Robin and Lucila jumped at the opportunity and established Suzie's Farm, which they named after a Norwegian Elkhound they'd found there.
Edible flowers and herbs were the first items they grew. Suzie's Farm now grows more than 100 varieties of seasonal vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruits—year-round on the beautiful farmland south of Imperial Beach. Their CSA program, which Robin and Lucila began in 2010, has become the cornerstone of the company. Lucila says she feels honored to feed her community and encourages customers to become part of their "farm-ily" by visiting the farm for a tour or seasonal event.
